Issue
When creating or editing a post in any type of Stream, the Metadata tab (which appears between the Editor and Tags tabs) does not appear. As a result, settings that are accessed through this tab (Description, URL Path, Thumbnail URL, Author, Status, Publish Date, Hide Publish Date) can't be modified.
- In the Edit Article view, the Metadata tab is not displayed
- Can't find Metadata tab
- Metadata tab hidden
- Can't update Thumbnail URL
Conditions
- Where: Edit Article view (click Add New Article or Edit Article in a Blog Stream)
- Any type of Stream
- Affected user is in the Content Managers and/or Account Administrators user group(s) and/or has been granted the necessary individual permissions to access and work with content Items in the Hub
- Any browser
- Any operating system
Cause
This is a permissions issue, and happens when the Restricted Content Authoring Experience permission is enabled for a user:
This is a subtractive permission, which removes access rather than granting it. Granting this permission removes the ability to publish posts, so the Publish/Publish Changes buttons is hidden for users who have the permission applied.
All members of the Authors group automatically inherit the Restricted Content Authoring Experience permission. As a result, this issue most often occurs when a user who should have the ability to publish posts (e.g. an Admin or Content Manager) is also added to the Authors group.
Steps to Fix
To fix this issue, you must be an Account Administrator.
Primary Solution
- Log in to Uberflip and click on your name in the top right corner.
- In the menu that appears, click on Account Settings.
- In the sidebar menu on the left, click on Organization to expand that menu section, then click on Users.
- In the list of users, find the user who is experiencing the issue and click on their name.
- You should be on the User Information tab for the user. Below the Groups dropdown, you should see the list of groups the user is currently in:
- If you see the Authors group on this list, click on the x button to the right of Authors:
- If you don't see Authors listed here, go to the Secondary Solution below.
- If you don't see Authors listed here, go to the Secondary Solution below.
- The Authors group will be removed from the list, indicating that the user has been removed from that group. This should resolve the issue.
Secondary Solution
- If you do not see the Authors group listed under the User Information tab, click on the Permissions tab.
- Scroll down until you find the permission named Restricted Content Authoring Experience (you can use Ctrl+F/Command+F to search).
- Uncheck the box next to Restricted Content Authoring Experience:
- This should resolve the issue.
Additional Notes
The Restricted Content Authoring Experience permission also causes the Publish/Publish Changes button in the Article Editor to be hidden.
Note also that the Metadata tab is supposed to be hidden for users in the Authors group — this is intentional behavior.
