Get started
The image title (caption) and description (alt text) can be set on an image in Uberflip’s Media tool.
The title and description applied in the Media widget is inherited when the image is added to an Item. However it is possible to overwrite the title and description in the Item editor if you’d like.
Captions can not be turned on for all images by default. You must turn captions on for each individual image when you add it to an Item.
The description you assign to the image in the Media tool will be applied as the alt text for use by accessibility tools, wherever the image is placed.
Note: Image captions are supported in content Items, but not in microsites built with Uberflip Pages.
Image title & caption
The ‘title’ you add to your image in either the Media tool will serve as the default caption for your image, but you can edit the caption in the Item editor to override that if you’d like.
Tip: The title can be used to search for images in the Media widget as well.
Image captions have to be turned on for each image at the Item level. There is no way to turn on captions for all images.
Turn on image captions
- Open an Uberflip Item that contains an image that you’d like to add a caption to
-
Right-click on the image and click Image... in the menu that appears
-
In the modal that opens, ensure that the Image title field is populated, and click the “Show Caption” checkbox. This is also a great time to ensure your image has alt text.
Note: You can edit the caption in the modal, or the Item editor after adding, to override the preset title. Changing the title here won’t affect the image's title saved in Media. - Click Save
That's it. Your image title will be shown under the image as a caption. Remember to publish the changes to your article to update that caption for visitors.
Image descriptions & alt text
The description you add to your image, in either the Media tool or when adding the image in the editor, will serve as the alt text for your image. If set, this is added automatically when the image is added to an Item. This is available for screen readers but the alt-text/description can not be made visible on the Item.
