Uberflip’s Media feature has several built in features to help you keep your images organized and easy to find. This article outlines image tagging, folders, and collections and how to use them.
Good to know
- When managing and organizing your Media Library, you’re doing so for all users in your Uberflip account. Any changes you (or anyone else) make in Media will affect all account users.
What are Folders and Collections?
There are two ways to organize assets in Media: Folders and Collections.
Folders
Folders are a way to organize assets in the Media Library. This is where the assets live in relation to the rest of your library. A folder can contain any number of subfolders, but an image can only live in one folder/subfolder at a time.
Think of Folders the same way you would the file and folder structure on your computer, where each file has a home.
Collections
Collections allow you package related images together, without disturbing your folder structure. An image can be in as many collections as you’d like, and you can have as many collections as you need.
Collections are used to bring images together for a campaign, page, or other project, then are easily deleted when it’s no longer needed, leaving the images untouched in their folders.
Collections can be shared with your Uberflip teammates, or with non-Uberflip users though a public link.
Create folders and subfolders
Want to add some structure to your Media library? The easiest way to create a new folder is to select some images, then create the folder based on those. Here’s how it’s done:
Remember: Images can only live in one folder at a time.
- Open the Media widget from anywhere in Uberflip
- From anywhere you are viewing images in Media (the Assets page, a collection, or a folder), select one or more images to add to a folder. A toolbar will appear.
- Click the more icon in the toolbar that appears, then click Move to Folder
- The Move Assets modal will open:
To create a new folder:
Click the Add Folder icon
Then enter a folder name and click Save. You’ll be taken into the folder, where you can click Move to add the images or add a subfolder.
To add images to an existing folder:
Select the folder you want to add the images to.
The modal will open to that folder. From there, click Move to add the images to this folder. Or you can click a sub-folder to go deeper before moving.
Tip: Click the Add Folder icon in any folder/sub-folder to create a new sub-folder.
That’s it! Your images have been moved into your folder.
Note: All images will appear in the Assets section of the Media Library, but when you head into the Folders section you’ll only find the images in their individual folders.
Create collections
Ready to create a collection for an upcoming project? The easiest way to create a new collection is to select some images, then create the collection based on those. Here’s how it’s done:
- Open the Media widget from anywhere in Uberflip
- From anywhere you are viewing images in Media (the Assets page, a collection, or a folder), select one or more images to add to a collection. A toolbar will appear.
-
Click the Add to Collection icon in the toolbar that appears
- The Add to Collection modal will open:
To create a new collection:
Type the name of the collection you want to create, then click the Create new collection option that appears in the list.
To add images to an existing collection:
Click the collection you want to add the images to. Use the search field to find the collection if needed.
- Click Add to add the images to the collection
That’s it! Your images have been added to your collection.
Tags images
Find and organize your images faster by tagging them in Media. Like tagging anywhere else on the internet, you can affix tags that help you associate images with words, such as descriptors, themes, or metadata, so you can easily search and find related images when needed.
Tag images
- Open the Media widget from anywhere in Uberflip
- From anywhere you are viewing images in Media (the Assets page, a collection, or a folder), select one or more images to tag. A toolbar will appear.
- Click the Tag icon in the toolbar to open the tagging modal
- Enter whatever tags you’d like to add. Hit Enter/Tab after each to lock them in. Add as many as you’d like.
- Click Update to apply your tags
That’s it! Your tags have been applied. You can now use your tags to search for images faster.
You can also apply tags when working with a single image. Just double click an image to open it in the Media widget, then click into the Metadata section.
